From my first job in London designing retail magazines I was then fortunate to be offered the chance to art direct Creative Review magazine.
Three years and a redesign later I left Creative Review when I was offered the deputy art director job on TIME magazine in London. TIME produced four international weekly editions in London and this exciting job saw me dealing with weekly schedules instead of the monthly ones and working closely with the US team on the NY edition.
After another three years on TIME I was hired as launch art director for ‘The Business’ for the Weekend FT. I came to the post with a full book of illustrators and I produced a very different business magazine.
The Financial Times closed the magazine in a round of cost-cutting some years later and I set myself up as Cook Design. I’ve worked for a lot of publishers and have enjoyed winning pitches for them, freshening up their titles or just working day-to-day on longer term design contracts. I am strong conceptually and have worked for consumer magazines and customer publishing houses.
