FT – ‘The Business’ (Covers)

From the word go, this mag was fun!
The Business was an exciting, small magazine intended to sit within the FTWeekend package. It’s remit was to showcase the ‘fast companies’, the startups that were appearing daily in the early nineties, with massive investment, the rise of the internet and the notion of the ‘global nomad’, a lifestyle portrayed to full effect by another leading mag of the time, Wallpaper.
Of course, as the nineties settled down, we all discovered it was perhaps not that easy, as subsequent global crashes proved. However, the magazine was a great success and with a big marketing push and above-the-line advertising spend, the FT Weekend increased its sales by over twenty percent.

My design approach was to give the magazine a personality of its own. A cheeky, irreverent logo which appeared in many different guises, combined with innovative illustration and superb photography.
